The short answer: a bladder assessment looks at the pattern of your symptoms — how often you go, any urgency or leakage — usually with a urine test and sometimes a simple bladder diary, to find the cause and the right treatment.
Leakage and urgency are common in both men and women and are not something you have to accept as part of getting older.
Further tests, such as a scan to check how well the bladder empties, are only suggested if they would change the plan.
Many bladder problems improve with simple, non-surgical approaches first.
